A little trouble with the medical checkups.

The medical checkups went ok.  Or perhaps I should say that it went alright for me.  It wasn’t too in depth, it involved a height and weight check, vision, blood pressure, blood test, urine test, and chest x-ray.  I shot through the lines and was done in about 30 minutes.  When I was done, I started looking for Melissa, who was just a few people behind me in line.  After searching for a few minutes, I made my way back to the beginning and found Melissa lying on the floor next to the blood test station.  Apparently, she got light headed when they took her blood and they laid her down on the mats they had provided for just such a circumstance.  After a couple of cups of orange juice and an acceptable blood pressure reading from the nurses, Melissa and I went to lunch to get her strength back.  She then finished out her medical checks with no further problems.

In the afternoon, we had a few more lectures, such as classroom management, sharing the co-teacher experience, and an into to our mini-lesson.  We had to give a mini-lesson on Friday morning.  We’re in groups of three, our group consisting of myself, Melissa, and a nice young woman named Rachel.  We have to think up an English activity that would be part of a larger lesson.  Since we have only 15 minutes to present, it can’t be a whole lesson, just the activity part.  We’ve come up with the idea of a food ordering exercise.  There are a number of western restaurant chains here, such as TGIF, Bennigans, and Outback Steakhouse.  Since Outback is our favorite, we downloaded and printed a menu from online and we’re going to make groups of our students, with half of them acting as the waiter/waitress, and the other half acting as diners.  Then they switch and perform the other role.  We think that this would be interesting to the students as well as useful.  Here in Korea, you can order western food in Korea, but if they ever travel to North America, they’ll have to know how to do it in English.  We’re going to get together this afternoon and evening and work out the exact details.

Nothing much interesting happened this morning.  We were supposed to go out to real Korean schools and see some English teaching in action, but due to the swine-flu overreaction here, they decided it would be safer to have the teachers come to us.  It’s a bit of a disappointment, as we were hoping to get off campus for a few hours, but ultimately we have to do what they say.  It’ll be nice when Saturday comes around and we’re brought to our apartments.  We’ll be free people again.  Only two days left, thank god.

That’s about it for now.  I’m afraid that I don’t have any pictures or video to post right now.  Maybe i’ll take some video this afternoon or evening.  See ya later.
